Commissioners among highly cited scientists
29/06/2026
Five Commissioners have been ranked among Carbon Brief’s leading climate scientists in its new analysis.
Carbon Brief’s Cosmos project draws on a database of more than 1.8 million climate publications and ranks scientists by citation score within that dataset.
Commissioners Carl Folke, Detlef van Vuuren and Keywan Riahi are all placed in the top 15 slots of the ranking, with Johan Rockström and Tim Lenton also included in the list. Folke is ranked fifth, van Vuuren sixth, and Riahi 13th, reflecting the strong impact of their research across climate and sustainability science.
Nebojša Nakićenović, a member of the Earth Commission Secretariat, is also included in the ranking.
Carbon Brief describes its database as the world’s largest climate-science publication database, and the full list of 500 scientists is available online here.
