A Stronger, Broader Alliance

Since its beginning, the Earth Commission has served as the scientific foundation for the Global Commons Alliance (GCA).
It is a coalition of scientists, philanthropists, civil society groups, and others that work to protect the global commons, the interconnected systems that keep our planet stable and make a just world possible. To do this, the Commission provided its Safe and Just Boundaries as the scientific foundation to guide the Alliance’s efforts.
But as the world changes, so too must the Alliance and today it enters a new phase.
The GCA is relaunching into a broader and more diverse network united by its shared mission. It is recruiting new members to foster mutual learning to increase efficiency and launch new programs and initiatives that drive transformation at scale.
“The Earth Commission grounds the Alliance’s work in rigorous science by defining the safe and just boundaries for a resilient planet,” said Wendy Broadgate, Executive Director of the Earth Commission and Global Hub Director at Future Earth. “As the GCA evolves and welcomes new members from across science, business, and civil society, the Commission’s work continues to anchor this growing community in evidence-based action to protect and restore the global commons.”
Over the past six years, the GCA was built around five core entities: the Commission, Science Based Targets Network, Earth HQ, Systems Change Lab, and Accountability Accelerator.
Each will continue to play a vital role in the GCA, from defining science-based targets for companies and driving global media engagement, to tracking system-wide change and improving accountability for corporate impacts on nature.
Organizations interested in joining, partnering, or supporting the GCA’s work can find more information and apply through the GCA website.
