A just world on a safe planet

The Earth Commission’s first study quantifying Safe and Just Earth System Boundaries is here.

About The Safe and Just Earth System Boundaries

The scientific cornerstone of the Global Commons Alliance, the Earth Commission, is soon to publish its groundbreaking science that’s been in the making for several years.

The Safe and Just Earth System Boundaries combine earth system science with social science to include justice in a quantification of the limits of the planet.

Whereas so far a huge amount of the world’s sustainability focus has been on the 1.5ºC temperature limit for climate, this new science provides similar limits for several other hugely important elements including water, air, biodiversity and nutrients. This new science is therefore set to underpin the next generation of sustainability targets.

The first ever science-based targets for nature, aligned with the new science, will be released on May 24th. If you’re a company wanting to know more about how to set a science-based target for nature, please, visit sciencebasedtargetsnetwork.org and start taking action today.
